Phone line into PC separate from DSL line?

I don't have a phone jack on my computer but want to use DialDictate, since my boss likes to use the phone to dictate.

If I get a USB voice modem and plug my telephone line into that on my PC, can this be separate from my DSL line that I use for internet?
